Dearest,

I have not heard from you since yours No:7 but of course quite realise there may be some delay now in delivery of letters.

Since the news of the invasion of the Low Countries last Friday, you have been more than ever in my thoughts and Jill and I say special little prayers for you each night.

I want you to try not to worry about Jill and me; I will take the greatest care of…

…both of us; and we are both very fit.

Dearest one, when things look a little gloomy, I want you to feel very sure that we at home have the fullest confidence in you all and that we know you will win through. We think your good spirits are admirable.

I’ve been working hard in the garden this evening and have cut the grass and trimmed the edges. My lettuces are growing apace, and the delphiniums are as tall as I am. My first bean has just popped…

There has been a house to house enquiry for the taking in of refugees (Belgian and Dutch) and most of those with spare accommodation are obliging. Edie is having two in the top room.

Darling, I wondered if I could have the address of one of the wives of your particular…

…comrades, so that if I seemed to be without news for an unduly long time, I could check up; and the same would apply to her, of course.

I rang up Iris’ mother this evening and she tell me that up to last Tuesday Eric was in Oxford, but Iris has had no reply to her last two letters (a most unusual occurrence) so that it seems he must be on the move.

Darling, I do hope I hear from you soon now. Meanwhile a loving hug from Jill and all my love and best kisses.

Yours,
Terry
