Jan 30th 1941.
Darling One.
I’ve been meaning to write ’ere this, but we have not been allowed out, the ban being lifted this afternoon for the first time. As I have left it rather late and also, during discussion with some of the other men who have recently returned from London I have discovered that it is better not to rely on train times at all. They went to New St (LM & S) arriving about 12 pm. To catch a London train due about that time, they were…

…informed that it would be very late and were advised to try Snow Hill (G.W). It is only a few minutes away and they caught almost immediately the 9.58!! This being so I think it best that I come down to you under my own steam.
Gosh! Darling it seems ages since I wrote to you just a fortnight ago telling you the glad news, I am so looking forward to being with you again for a nice long time dearest. We shall be able to have such fun, even if we do not go out a lot. You know I love being with you, my little jewel girl in her own cottage…

…setting, that’s why I think I’m always less unhappy when I leave you if I say goodbye to you at home. It was horrible coming back here from Manchester, and I even felt a bit more howly than usual when I left you and little Jill at Ash Lodge one Sunday.
By the time you get this letter the time will be very short darling, and then seven whole days.
Bye Bye Dingle my sweetest one,
Your own
Kenneth
