Darling,

Thank you so much for yours No 29 dated the 3rd and also for No 30 dated the 6th, the latter I’ve just received, please forgive me darling for not having written since the 6th, we’ve all been terribly busy lately, we have moved quite [redacted text] from our original position, nothing dangerous darling, in fact safer if possible than before, it was a great blow to leave our madame, and I think she was very sorry too.

…our billets as shipshape as possible and there’s tons still to do. The G.P. doesn’t exist as yet, we’ve got to dig a [redacted text], it should be good fun, we going to try and make it a pattern.

Darling one I’m not going to try and answer your two letters just now completely, its very late and I’m writing by the light of a candle and I know you will understand how busy we’ve all been. Just one thing I’m so glad you’ve had a note from Coles, I have too, he has very kindly agreed to let me pay him when I come home, which I’m convinced…

  • 7th March, 1940—Finnish delegates arrive in Moscow to begin peace negotiations with the Soviet Union.
  • 7th–12th March, 1940—Intense fighting continues on the Karelian Isthmus as Soviet forces press their offensive against Finnish defenses.
  • 12th March, 1940—Finland and the Soviet Union sign the Moscow Peace Treaty, ending the Winter War and resulting in significant territorial concessions by Finland.
