No. 22.

Maycot 12.2.40.

Dearest,

Thank you so much for yours No: 24 enclosing a note to Wyn and also one to Jill, which I duly passed on. Wyn was very pleased with hers and is replying personally, tho’ I can’t say when you will receive it. Jill has been delighted with your recent letters to her and I’ve thought they’ve been very ducky.

I’m so glad for your sakes that the weather is now much warmer, though the mud must be very trying at times. However you always manage to sound very cheerful about things.

I loved the sound of your shopping for your temporary “home”–I think the other occupants must find you a “little godsend”.

Incidentally I passed Vic’s letter over to Tris (via Wyn) and Tris remarked that she felt sure Vis would be very lucked with it. No doubt you will hear from him in due course.

I’ve not been called on the phone…

…by Teddie Wellsford—perhaps he found he was too fully occupied to visit Vic.

I’m longing to see your photograph darling. It will be so nice to have one as you are now. Do let me have it as soon as possible won’t you?

I do hope dearest you have now heard your leave date—it seems an unconscionable time in materializing. I can quite see the point about not changing into civvies when on leave as the difference in the weight of the clothes must be considerable. It would be so sad to have to spend some of the precious time being ill.

I was very interested to hear details of the occupants of the farm, the certainly sound a nice crowd and Wyn and I thoroughly understood the reference to Madam as a female French “Jim”! Incidentally I hoped she liked my little tea cosy.

We’ve had Hugh with us today and he was in quite good humor. He always sends you his kind regards.

By the way, Wyn’s romance is not waning—rather it is an established thing and he has very sincere intentions.

As from the end of this month the Bishops have suggested making me a reduction in the rent of 10% per month and also meeting the water rate; not lavish of course but at any rate something.

There’s very little news just at the moment darling but I’ll write you again very soon. Meanwhile dearest, here’s my love and longing to see you very soon.

Yours,

Terry.

PS. Jill and I spoke to Dorrington on the Common yesterday. He is now with the London Welsh. Was he always a Sergeant? Anyway he is now. He asked after you.
