Darling Dingle,

Thank you so much for your two letters, the second of which was quite unexpected. I don’t believe that I can think of anything worthwhile that delays my coming home to you, still it will be great fun; the dance, I expect—and it will be lovely to be alone together for a week end. I quite see that with Wyn away it will simplify matters if I am home with you over the weekend…

…although I have been able to change I have not been successful in getting the exact date you mention. I shall be leaving here, I hope, about 9.30 on Saturday morning so I should be home in good time. I am afraid this will mean my leaving on Monday morning which I know, darling is not very popular with either of us. I had been looking forward to this Sunday and it’s a bit of a blow, waiting another week. I have explained to our sergeant that as I am going three weeks this time without leave I shall expect only to wait…

one week next time.

Tomorrow our amateurs on this site are going to practice invasion. They have asked us to play, and as they are quite useless without their brains trust we have promised to co-operate. It means living in very cramped quarters for 24 hours; did I mention that our booking clerk has got another pip, funny way of celebrating—ain’t it.

There is no more news darling at the moment, except that we have dug a large hole which filled last night, when it snowed, with water. We are waiting for the summer and its evaporation.

Darling, I came across this whilst reading the other day, I thought it rather fine, it’s by a man called Herbert French I don’t think I’ve ever heard of him.

“What shall I give you, woman dear?
Kiss for your eyes, pearl for your ear,
Praise to requite you.
Toils to delight you.
Or trophies that shall leave your name,
canopied by outlasting fame?”

AH NO! MUCH LESS!
GIVE ME, O GIVE ME FAITHFULNESS.

My love darling one.

Always yours.

Kenneth.
