Darling,

Thank you so much for your letter. I was sorry you were disappointed at not having heard from me! our letters crossed. You did get the Birthday card I sent you?

Pinkie went home on Saturday and I have moved round with Eric. Our little room round at Mrs Mitchell’s had begun to get on my nerves a bit. It seemed so bare with none of your things about.

Rumour has been rife during the last few days forecasting an imminent move to such places as Corsica, Iceland, the East Coast, Malta, and Hayes. I’m afraid the last one is wishful thinking.

I’m afraid I wasted a tremendous lot of space in my last letter, you see I didn’t realize exactly what your duties would be, your warden duties I mean, it was all rather beside the point I’m afraid.

Mother is a very naughty little thing to sleep through air raids, I shall have to write and tell her so.

I enclose a letter I have had from Lewis. I have just sent a bare acknowledgement. I think he will be very sorry that he is taking up the attitude that he is.

Eric and I went for a long walk after tea last night. Lasting about six hours, I’m getting so bored with this place and also with every thing being so expensive, they paid me 5/- this Friday.

I’m inwardly reaching the conclusion that smoking is impossible at English prices, it’ll just have to be one of the many things that a lot of us will have to do without in the near future.

All my love to you darling, I miss you so very much. I can’t convince myself that our presence here, so far away, is necessary.

Your own
Kenneth
