Maycot

20.12.39.

Dearest,

Thank you again so much for yours Nos: 12+13; I particularly treasure No: 13 as it is wholly a love letter and entirely sweet. I am so glad dear you are keeping happy.

(Incidentally No: 12 arrived yesterday and No:13 this morning, the latter taking only 4 days from leaving you, the quickest so far.)

Darling I am terrifically lucked at your chances of promotion. It will be lovely having you near me for some little time and then there is the important consideration of financial relief. I also hope it materializes soon. I miss you so very much, darling.

Wyn got about as excited as me, and you would have smiled at the interest she takes in you. I mentioned to her the other day that Edie had told me they wanted to make Jim a Seargant. Wyn very indignantly said, “A Sergeant; we don’t want Kenneth to be a Sergeant so we?” I think it was rather sweet.

Seriously darling, I cannot tell you how very pleased I am…

…at the possibility of your promotion. I shall long to hear when I may address you as “Lieut.”! Above all come home to me soon.

Wyn and I were very amused at the exploits of your upper denture, though until I had read that you had recovered them I was very worried about your food. According to all accounts I feel you must be one of the most amusing characters in your Unit.

Jill was very pleased with her letter and replies as enclosed. Do rate her attempts at drawing me as well as rabbits. I think they show definite progress. You will also find some kisses there.

The other enclosure arrived for you a day or so ago. Have I got your insurance cards and should I send them off? If so, please send back the enclosed envelope.

Tris tells me that Vic has now received the various parcels. I am so glad you were able to see to this. Poor Vic, he must have been miserable without his mail. I hope also you have written him as he seems to be very attached to you.

I received a letter from Aunt Sara…

…sending me a little cash for xmas chocs, in which she says she sent you a letter and parcel about five weeks ago, but has not yet had any acknowledgement from you. Do write and acknowledges parcels darling, Auntie particularly gets a little het up! Other parcels you should have received to my knowledge are from the following:-

Mother, Jack & Joan

Dad

Rita

Auntie Polly & Pier

Auntie Sara

Edie

Also I think a box of chocs from Mr Wood the baker.

I hear Vernon has now been made a Sergeant (another one) and expects to go to France any day now.

Wyn says, please don’t tick her off quite so much, as if she ever meets Chapple (who censors your letters) he’ll think she’s awful. Actually she’s quite amused and is very sweet to me.

Incidentally, people continue to regard us as an example that married happiness and love does last. Tris held us up as a couple who were…

…not casual with one another even after seven years marriage. Wyn also says we are necessary to her so that she can tell herself that there really is such a thing as a married couple still in love! It’s rather nice really darling isn’t it?

Jill and I seem to be losing our colds gradually and I do hope they will have vanished completely before Saturday when we go over to Jack and Joan for the Xmas holiday.

I’m going to miss you terribly darling this xmas, but we shall have to make up for it when you come home.

People have been very considerate to Jill and I this year, and I have received several small gifts of cash to buy things we really need. This is very acceptable as actually I have nothing to spare for extras. I am getting Jill one or two toys from us and she has already received two lovely dolls. Wyn has bought her some delightful house boots and I have also bought her a dressing gown with some of the cash. I am further going to buy her some shoes.

I cannot, of course, manage anything for gifts, except a nice tin of biscuits each…

…for Mother and also to take to Jack and Joan. Also a pair of stockings for Eyn.

By the way, Edie gave me a small gift and has made Jill a patchwork blanket (different colored squares of crochet) and Pat has given Jill a doll she has dressed. Altogether I think Jill will have quite a good time.

Gladys Hines and Anthony are coming to Edie for about 10 days and Jim has 24 hours leave on Boxing Day.

Leslie Baker seems to have been having a very tough time and if now laid up with very bad feet. According to Edie the treatment received by “regulars” is inhuman!

I’m so glad your new digs are fairly comfortable and free from rats.

Darling, I do hope you did not write to Mother asking her to have us for Xmas, as though I know she would love to have us, it’s a question of funds on her part. Also there are rations to consider as, though we don’t have to produce our ration cards yet, we are only allowed our ration of butter…

I have been able to get a little extra from Mrs Lawford and am taking some to Joan in case they are short of this commodity.

There is no more news now darling. God bless you, keep you safe and bring you home to me soon,

Yours,

Terry.

P.S. Incidentally, Wyn always sends you her love so please send her a little occasionally. She keeps saying she ought to write to you but unless she did it in the small hours I don’t know when she could.

All my love,

T.
