Darling,
Jill and I were delighted to receive your No:29 of 19th inst. this morning.

I’m very disappointed your leave is so long deferred but 14th, 16th, or 18th will mean that we shall avoid the dates I mentioned previously. Also perhaps the weather will be kind. Today has been very springlike and I see lots of crocuses coming through. If I don’t feel too tired later on next month I intend doing a little gardening in the evenings after Jill is in bed.

Whilst I went up to town last Saturday Tris took Jill to her home and Jill had a lovely time and apparently made a great hit with Tris’s parents. Tris’s father took her to Woolworths and asked her to choose two presents—what she decided on, and insisted she wanted nothing else but, were a large kitchen coal shovel and hearth brush—they were very amused! She tells me she…

…is going to use the shovel for gardening!

She has been very lucky as regards presents this last week – Wyn brought her a very nice scrap book, Hugh a writing set and I brought her back from town another lot of plasticene. She has also had lots of sweets so we shall have to keep her quiet for a while. Oh! Wyn also bought her a small teddy bear to which she has taken a great fancy.

Darling I’m delighted to hear the further news item re your commission and do hope you soon hear something further.

Isn’t Sgt. Ascolie lucky to be home again! It doesn’t seem fair – though he seems a very nice fellow.

By the way, when we happen to pass the Camp on the Common (which is not often) Jill insists on going up to the fence and asking the troops how they are getting on. They are quite sweet with her. She tells me they are her friends.

As I’ve rather a headache tonight darling I won’t write more now – but drop you another line in another day or so.

With lots of love, yours.

Terry.
