Darling
No I havn’t deserted. The address I mean. I intended to write to you yesterday but we didn’t get here until late last night. Wexford is a tiny little village between Birmingham and Stratford-on-Avon. This is not a Gun Site, we are all on our own, with the exception of a mechanical cable team, and our job is really very important. We are a sort of early warning station. We are under canvass but you will be glad to know that we have floor boards and beds. We have to mount a water fatigue three times a day, well not very adjacent. Pub (the above) is quite adjacent, and as we cant find a battery or regiment to own us at the moment we have…

…adopted it for the time being as an address. Please note tho “Esq.”, serving soldiers (see Kings Rules & Regulations) are not allowed private addresses.

Darling, about leave, its better than I thought. 24hrs once a week or 48hrs once a Fortnight, I’m afraid I shall have to take the ’48’ because we’re three miles from any sort of main road and that is only a secondary one. God knows ‘how long it will take me! I think you may rely on seeing me next week sometime. I will let you know more definitely when next I write. By the way I’ll bring you some mushrooms when I come! Ive never seen them growing in such profusion, Id love to have you down here with me darling, especially if it were more summery, the country is simply superb.

Will write again Darling very soon all my love. take care of your dear self.

Yours Kenneth
