HURSTWAY 1057.
ASH LODGE,
HAYES,
KENT.
My dear Kenneth:
I was very upset to get your message asking for more money. When Daddy + I gave you £5.-.-. you promised that you would not ask for any more. Not forgetting what you had previously had – it’s terrible to think that you could let a poor woman down. As I told Terry she should have seen her bill was settled before leaving. Also you must not have any more incoming calls.
Have you forgotten too the money that poor old Daddy has to repay the bank—it’s perfectly true it breaks my heart to say this—but you only want me for what I can give you—but you must realize this—that the money I sent you yesterday from Daddy & I is the very last. If you get into debt with no hopes of repaying, it’s dishonest. Terry & Jill are coming to tea with me tomorrow, and I certainly shall not refer to this miserable business which we all thought was a thing of the past. Terry tells me that you have two very nice friends so that you need never feel lonely. Don’t you ever go to church? Try this, my dear, thank God every day for sparing you and for bringing you safely back to those you love, those who love you.
I can name several people here who have lost their boys and even if you are bored – please be thankful that you are well. And lastly Kenneth dear do be honest. When you get the £5.-0-0-. you should have put aside the money for Terry + the rest for pocket money – if you truly love each other surely to be together should have been sufficient.
I shall send you a little something when I can afford it.
Love from,
Mother.
PS. Terry is very upset about this. Don’t you realize she has very little to manage on and needed a change which you have missed. I’m sorry to say, again don’t ask again because we cannot do it.
