In Britain preparations for a war as yet undeclared continue apace.
My grandmother, Teresina Evelina Penman, receives official certification of har status as an Air Raid Warden, along with written apology for its belated delivery. Thousands of Britons are responding to a call to build civil defenses ahead of any potential invasion. The entire nation is mobilizing
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin meets with French Prime Minister Édouard Daladier on Tuesday, and Italian Dictator Benito Mussolini on Wednesday. Chamberlin futilely urges Mussolini to advise Hitler against anything which might incite conflict. The talks break down and Chamberlin leaves Italy without assurances.
On Saturday the Reich Propaganda Ministry will inform the German press that Hitler, previously referred to as “Führer and Reich Chancellor”, is now to be addressed simply as “Leader”—Führer.
